Hello Everyone,

Currently there have been 452 JIRA tickets resolved for 9.0.0 with 23
tickets (ex. blockers) still open, good job everyone!

Thanks to everyone's work we were able to reduce the number of blockers and
have PRs [1][2][3] for 3/5 open blockers that mostly require reviews. The
following two C++ issues have seen little activity recently will require
some attention prior to the release:
- ARROW-16692 StackOverflow in merge generator [4] No activity since June,
it looks like the actual solution is dependent on other issues but an error
message to prevent a hard crash could be a workaround for now.
- ARROW-15678 A complex issue with compiler optimization and homebrew. [5]

Regardless of the status of these blockers we will create the release
branch on monday to initiate the "feature freeze" after that only fixes for
the blockers (or issues that pop up during verification) will be cherry
picked from master. At this point all open, non-blocker issues will be moved
to 10.0.0. Development on master can of course continue as usual but if you
are able, please try to help with the blockers.

Thanks!
