I want to underline how insane this is: "...the groups which looked at [the web_view] proposal [...] largely viewed it favourably, a promising way of allow C++ applications to do things like graphical output without having to standardize a graphics API ourselves, as previously attempted."
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I would never have guessed that any committee would have thought the failure of the graphics API proposal was that it didn't go far enough. I don't think there could be a brighter possible neon sign that library integration and ecosystem ergonomics are so horrendous that one of the proposed remedies for "it's hard to integrate [skia, cairo, opengl] with my project" is "let's effectively include an existing operating system in the standard library". I should also mention that as a non-majority browser engine developer, this is an existential threat to Mozilla, and in turn, the web. What can I do to help keep things on the tracks here?
