I am sorry you are still having problems, I compiled 2.6.17.1 and now have 100% success.
Because dapper uses UDEV I plug my palm in, start jpilot, hit the sync button on my palm then click the sync button on jpilot. I am no expert but can you post your pilot-link output ?
