Thanks Aaron, it works now with your help. So maybe this bug should be renamed "xmodmap could not be used for X left-handed mouse"? Or since xmodmap is considered deprecated, maybe this bug could closed as invalid or something like that? Anyway I will suggest the precisions of /usr/share/doc/xserver-xfree86/NEWS.Debian.gz to be added in the X FAQ.
