There is a fascinating piece of research featured at
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn13596
about male monkeys preferring "boys" toys. However, with females
the preference was more varied. However, best to keep in mind 1)
their sample size was not huge and 2) non-human primates might
have cultural bias of their own.
