Hey,
Here are links the largest surveys on free software developers in 2001/2002:
a) Widi survey carried out by the Technical University of Berlin in 2001
with 1.1 % women online on
http://widi.berlios.de/paper/study.html
b) FLOSS (Free/Libre/Open Source Software) developers´ survey undertaken
by the University of Maastricht from 2002 with 1,1 % of female
participants, online on
http://www.infonomics.nl/FLOSS/report/Final4.htm
c) OSDN Hacker survey carried out by the Boston Consulting Group in 2002
had 98% men online on
http://www.ostg.com/bcg/bcg-0.73/img20.html
The current FLOSSPOLS survey
http://flosspols.org/survey/survey_part.php?groupid=blkosc now has more
female participants. However this is certainly due to the fact that the
survey is also on gender issues as well as since we try to get as many
female free software participants as possible to participate in order to
carry out a statistically sound analysis on gender groups.

I'm copying Bernhard Kreiger to comment on the research that backs up
this number. As I understand it, the number is borne out in several
studies.

Neat! Looks like an article about the session made it into
Newsforge[1],
with both you and DW mentioned. Do we have a press/articles section on
the site/wiki? Should we?
Keep us in the loop about the Women in Open Source thing.

Hey,
I've seen some news in Brasil, too, and one of them had 'only 2% of
free
software developers are women'[0] (I think borrowed from computer
world)
and witnessed some negative reaction to this study on the local
linuxchix group.
Danese, do you have pointers for the research which comes to that
conclusion?
Congrats on what seems was a very positive panel!
See ya,
