Making NM more of a mentoring+monitoring thing, instead of The Essay Test From Hell, would be a Great Thing. It appears that other AMs aren't entirely against the idea, either. The problem is ensuring that the FD/DAM team gets usable reports out the other end -- a report from an AM saying "we talked about lots of stuff and I reckon they know their stuff" isn't going to cut it, but 9 months of e-mail logs, discussing random social stuff as well as all of the mentoring conversation is, most likely, going to cause DAM to fall asleep before vetting one application. I've just had a bit of an idea on AM reporting, though, so check d-newmaint (either your mailbox, or the archives if you're not subscribed) and see what you think of my idea. - Matt
