That file doesn't exist, but this one might work:
eben@cerberus:~$ stat ~/.xinitrc

I put it in there and removed it from ~/.profile, so we'll see the next
time I log into X.
That worked. Maybe ~/.xinitrc is an old location? I'll probably leave it
there unless there's a good reason to move it.
