It's not really about what's "important", but what's feasible given the available resources (time spent by the security team). If the security team has the time to offer a handful of testing updates -- which, apparently, they did at least once in the last few months -- then that's great. Everyone loves security updates. However, their primary goal must, and will, remain supporting the stable release(s). Sometimes they struggle even doing that.
