I can't write often enough that it's nonsense to claim distro X is
better or less good than distro Y.

It depends to the version of the distro, to your needs and to your
hardware.

Do we all feel the best, if we heat our flats as we do it now, or should
we all heat the flats a little bit more or a little bit less?

Correct, the answer is, that it depends to the temperature our flat has
got at the moment, to the things we are doing at the moment and to our
different sensations of heat.

Did you check the checksum when burning and did you verify the burned
ISO? There might be an installation media check included to the CD.

Btw. if the installer of distro X is less good, the ready installed
distro Y anyway could be less good. I would try another media, if the CD
should be ok, but still not work.

Instead of running something that is faulty between nightfall and
daybreak, I would turn of the computer, wait a while and turn it on
again.

What version of Kubuntu are you running and what is your Linux used for?
Do you use any exotic hardware?
