Now this is the system I want to put together 1GB/s streaming reads,
and 500MB/s writes - please recommend the hardware for me to the tee

This suggests at the very least 10G ethernet and a high-performance RAID
system with lots of memory. This is not the stuff that people normally
use in their homes or small offices. You may want to consult a
professional because the costs of this are more than you probably want
to risk.
