You misattribute to malice what can readily be explained by stupidity. Some pointy-haired nitwit at Toshiba probably thought it was a good idea and made the company run with it.



The reason for this is simple, its much easyer and cost-efficient to write a configuration GUI for windows (or X) then for a clean bootup environment, for instance you don't have to develop your own toolkit....
offcorse I wonder how are they going to solve problems such as misconfigured primary IDE drive...
(Can't boot windows... Knoppix anyone? ;)
