Although, I say from experience, an utter pig to compile. :) gcc takes
over 100Mb of memory here to compile jikes.

The version in testing/unstable is OK. Watch out for CVS - it looks
stable at first glance, but breaks rather badly (see various closed bugs
in the Debian BTS).
