I'll peruse subjects I'm interested in, generally skip stuff of marginal interest in which there's a lot of discussion (I figure the question's been addressed, and topic has probably drifted), and try to respond to otherwise unanswered posts. I also tend to delete anything that's: - HTML formatted. - doesn't wrap < 80 characters (I highly recommend 72). - doesn't follow reasonable quoting rules: postfix, '> ' lead. - is grossly misspelled, mispunctuated, lacks capitalization, paragraphing, coherent thought, or is otherwise tiresome to read. Hence, I say: write as if you're asking a favor of your reader. Very often on mailing lists you are. I'll give *some* allowance on the last point for people who are clearly not native English speakers. I've spent some time in foreign lands (and even parts of New Jersey) where it's damned hard to understand or be understood, and can respect that. But if language is a sufficiently high barrier, I'll recommend seeking regionalized support. -- Karsten M.
