This might be your problem. Are you running kernel 2.2.12? I had a similar problem after my latest kernel upgrage in that it no longer detected my video memory and I had to add a line in /etc/X11/XF86Config Device section: VideoRam 2048 It looks like your chipset isn't detected either.
