I had also problems with acroread (the rendered image looked scrambled), but never investigated it futher. But a quick look in the bug tracking system (http://www.debian.org/Bugs/) gave me a bug report with a workaround added that might help:
> Package: acroread > Version: 3.02-0.1 > > This is what I get: > sammakko:~$ acroread > Segmentation fault > > And that's because acroread uses the libc6-version of xlib6, not libc5 > version like it should. > > This problem is easily corrected by adding line > export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/libc5-compat:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH > in the script that lauches acroread's binary. That makes acroread > use the right libraries. > > I'm running on 2.0/2.1/2.2 Debian. > > Thanks. > > Panu > Tell us if it doesn't work. -- Patrik Hägglund
