I install apt-xapian-index with a package manager 2. apt-xapian-index is installed and postinst runs the indexer in background 3. I get back into the package manager, which runs apt-xapian-index, which connects to the running indexer and reports progress, which the package manager displays in a progress bar 4. I get bored of waiting and click on an Abort button. The package manager should be able to stop the background indexer, but at the moment the only thing that it can do is to stop the updater that it ran. This will leave the indexer working in the background. This could be solved by implementing an update-apt-xapian-index --stop option that connects to a running indexer and tells it to stop and remove the partially built index.
