Package: apt-xapian-index
Version: 0.40
Severity: wishlist
Hello,
I have always wanted to index popcon scores into apt-xapian-index.
We already experimented with them in goplay, with a nice rating display,
and it is a very compelling feature.
The problem is that popcon scores are not found in the local system and
must be downloaded from http://popcon.debian.org/all-popcon-results.txt.gz
So writing a plugin to index the information would be trivial, but it
would be a bit less trivial to keep that information up to date, as
systems may not have persistent internet connections.
I would also like to avoid implementing yet another "foo update"
program: ideally acquiring this information should just happen at
"apt-get update" time.
Still ideally, such information could be found in mirrors next to
Packages and Release files, so that it will end up in released CDs.
Doing this right would therefore require quite a bit of people to get
involved (ftp-masters and apt maintainers for a start).
With this bug we now at least have a place to keep track of the work.
Ciao,
Enrico
