No, the lid is open and I use neither an external keyboard nor a
monitor. I use the PowerBook from another machine via VNC.

The pbbuttonsd.conf(5) man page says:
To have always a sign of life from the computer pbbuttonsd would
play a beep every roundabout 30 seconds if the computer was
still running with closed lid.

But the lid isn't closed. There seems to be a bug.
