Yes. In fact it did the same on my newworld, where I had actually installed the deb using dpkg --install. I wasn't able to get online for the last day or so, and I finally noticed it couldn't load any modules during the boot messages -- so that was why. Changing the /lib/modules directory name to match the uname fixed it.
