ISO-2022 may be nice, but it is not the future. I must object to these amendments to my proposal. It doesn't seem worthwhile to construct x-terminal-emulator policy in such a way that kterm is destined to become everyone's default. On the contrary, my proposal would leave most terminal emulators at parity with each other. It does, however, point the way towards enhancements that are going to be important in the future. Policy should serve as a guideline, not a sneaky coronation of some particular terminal emulator as Debian's mandated default. I'd rather remove all the UTF-8/Unicode stuff from my proposal than do that. -- G.
