AFAIK, the Doom game engine is free software, but the original Doom game data are still proprietary. There are free reimplementations of the game data (such as http://freedoom.sourceforge.net/), but (maybe) they are infringing on the original Doom game data copyright... :-/ -- :-( This Universe is buggy!
