I would prefer a Live Version, I had verry good experience with kanotix wich is sid based. If it runs on your Notebook, it is save for you to install. Also have a look on tuxmobile.com or google for your Notebook (If you haven't allready) If you expect more help here, you should Provide some Information about your Notebook.
