Indeed. We are not familiar with many non-cargo-centric Rust projects, but know that they exist. Personally I am aware of only Mozilla projects and one project using Cargo-in-meson. Please (when/if accepted into Debian) file wishlist bugreports this package for concrete examples of interesting Rust projects that might benefit from non-cargo-centric packaging debhelper tooling, then we can discuss if reasonable to extend this package to cover them.
