This has been said earlier in the discussion, but to summarize.
Even if you don't simplify the package, uniformity has significant
value.
First, it makes it easier for others to analyze correctness.
Second, it makes it easier to adopt future changes.
I'm not asking you to go mess with a package you orphaned, simply
summarizing an answer that it sounds like you missed.
