Well, the socket-based activation which allows true parallelization of the boot process as well as the replacement of the complicated and error-prone bash scripts with unit files are quite compelling in my opinion. I use systemd on my laptop with an SSD and within a kvm and have boot times down to 3 seconds. Also, systemctl and systemd-analyze are really nice.
