There's a third, issue, which is #508644: to abstract default-mta (or similar), to make any such transition feasible in a future-proof way. Maybe we ought to concentrate on that first? I think I am to blame a bit for adding to the fuel of the postfix-exim4 debate with the doodle link, which just took us away from the actual discussion.
