Unfortunately, this has also put me off NNTP. I think this is a limitation in the client. I don't think there has been much work on improving NNTP clients, probably because everyone is addicted to mailing lists. I want a distributed way of synchronising the read post list. I can think of several approaches you could take, however it needs somebody who is willing to implement it (and ideally create a standard).
