If you want that, and you want to keep the non-Linux ports, then I think you have to pick upstart as the single supported system. If we pick systemd as the default now, it will be very difficult to change our mind later. So you need to decide now which you think is more important: the non-Linux ports, or systemd as the single init system for Debian.
