i usually build my own, since that bug report i built and used every
version up to  Linux flatline 2.6.33-rc8 #6 SMP PREEMPT that is the one
i am running now. Due to a problem in nvidia, i had to use for a while
the kernel from the debian package, but the problem still shows, so i
think it might not be kernel related.

it seemed unlikely to me too, but what else  can i look into?
thanks again for your time, if the bug seems unsolvable, the problem
might be a misconfiguration on my side, i do not want to steal too much
time from you. it would be nice if other users reported a similar bug,
but it looks like it's only me.
