i just did the chroot, a debian sid with deboostrap from the mirror ftp.de.debian.org (the .it. one was way too slow) debootstrap sid ./tmp_deb/ http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian and installed both ghc6 and gdb in the chroot. i then chrooted and: gdb --args /usr/lib/ghc-6.12.1/lib/ghc -B/usr/lib/ghc-6.12.1/ --interactive but the output is the very same i get on _my_ real machine: (gdb) run Starting program: /usr/lib/ghc-6.12.1/lib/ghc -B/usr/lib/ghc-6.12.1/ --interactive /bin/bash: warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (it...@euro) [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] [New Thread 0x7ffff67ff910 (LWP 9622)] [New Thread 0x7ffff5dfb910 (LWP 9623)] GHCi, version 6.12.1: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/ :? for help Loading package ghc-prim ... linking ... done.
