After having talked with upstream, 2.4 support is not so important anymore. If you have the chance, could you try the patch in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=573162 to see if it works as well? Otherwise Paolo (upstream) intends to issue a new version to fix this in the coming days.
