non-conf-file-in-modprobe.d description reads:
"Files in /etc/modprobe.d should use filenames ending in .conf. modprobe
currently warns about files which do not match this convention and at some
point in the future the files will no longer be processed."
As far as I can see, modprobe in unstable already silently ignores all
non-.conf files in /etc/modprobe.d/.
