Comments/Problems:
o There's no floppy on this system. The installer tried to load the
floppy driver every time it loaded some kernel modules, reporting a
failure each time.
o The installer hung during some module probe. Using "expert" mode, I
got it both during the network hardware detection stage and the
generic "Detect hardware" stage. The computer hung hard; it was not
possible to switch to the log console to see which module it failed
on. (Using "aic7xxx=3Dno_probe" as suggested for "certain DELL
machines" didn't help.)
o The next time I avoided the automatic network hardware detection
and choose the driver b44 manually. Even though the driver loaded
correctly, the installer displayed an error that no ethernet card
was found. The installation continued correctly to the next stage,
however.
o I also tried to skip the generic "Detect hardware" stage by
choosing the next one, but the installer started another kernel
module load run anyway.
o During a quick switch to the log console before the hang, I noticed
that the last log message came from the pcmcia_core module. So
after another reboot I loaded it manually, which worked fine. The
"Detect hardware" stage didn't work after this, so I had to
interrupt it with Ctrl-C (no hard hang this time - it just didn't
progress). There were numerous messages about missing module
dependencies in the log after that interruption.
Afterwards it was still not possible to skip the module load run,
but when I restarted it yet again, it got to the end with an error
about that modules needed for my system weren't loaded. The
installation continued fine anyway.
o The list over network card drivers was not sorted alphabetically
which made it more difficult than necessary to find my driver. This
seems to be common for many lists in the installer. E.g. the one
over keyboard layouts is _almost_ sorted but some entries are out
of order (e.g. "Dutch" and "Brazilian").
o In the Swedish translation, it says "Uppt=E4ck cd-rom", "Uppt=E4ck
h=E5rdvara" etc. I believe a better word in place of "Uppt=E4ck" is
"Detektera".
