Hi, about Cinnamon actually it use nm-applet and needs it, but seems there is something changing for the new version (in development), I don't have enough time to check thoroughly but I noticed from a very quick look that I do upstream every now and then that there are changes in the network configuration in cinnamon for the new version and I also noticed this commit about blacklist nm-applet from the session autostart:
