To me the fact that dbmail does not actually act as a smtp server seems like a shortcoming. I Know that it may be a waste of time write yet another SMTP server but does anybody in here this might be a worthwhile effort. I am thinking that it might be relatively short work if it was written in perl or python. Perl has the NET::SMTP::SERVER module and the iscan project has pretty neat plug in architecture so it might be pretty short work to roll something up using other peoples code. If we used those two as a combination then it would be easy to add spam filtering and other features too.

BTW thanks for all the postfix-mysql instructions I have been struggling with exim-postgres and dbmail and I am tempted to switch to postfix-postgres.
