Thanks for your advices. But how can I set up the application, so that
it's using your mentioned pop-before-smtp and sasl. Is there any
specific adjustment I've to set? (or dbmail related documentation,
where I can dig into the problems) I'm planning to use dbmail 1.0 with
mysql.

sasl is documented for postfix in the SASL_README that comes with
postfix. It's
non-trivial to setup, but it's supported in many modern MUAs (eudora,
outlook, mozilla,
etc...)
for pop-over-smtp (never used it myself) start looking at the MYSQL_README
with postfix.
General principle: if POP_BEFORE_SMTP is enabled in dbmail.conf the
dbmail pop
server will log the associated ip. Next you can setup postfix such that
relaying is allowed
from ip addresses in the correct table in the dbmail database.
Someone did a more extensive explaination on the list recently. Since
however no list-archives are
available (hint, hint, Eelco: hint :-) perhaps someone with some
experience in this area
could help you out.
