Al Gore said yesterday that he won’t run for president in 2004.
Apparently some Democrats told him the party was ‘exhausted’ with him. Well,
they’re not the only ones. Maybe it’s just me, but I found it difficult to even
watch him.

And the same goes for the earnest discussions over whether Trent Lott
is a segregationist. And whether he was ‘emotional enough’ in his apology for
saying nice things about Strom Thurmond on his 100th birthday. The next step
will probably be for one of the networks to set up a panel of judges, who will
hold numbers over their heads after every statement by a public official. Of
course, they’ll have to find an East German – or maybe an Iraqi – to make it
really precise.

We tracked some of the Lott action over the weekend. I think your’ll
find who said what makes interesting reading.

And Scott Wheeler’s piece on how al-Qaeda has adopted American strategic tactics
created quite a stir. It’s still posted. .
