Whether or not it is typical of top-posters to quote list footers, in my experience (40+ years in IT, one of the first ARPAnet users outside of the military), it is these days the case that bottom-posters are usually the most guilty of failure to prune. It is this very fact that has led to the increase in top-posters. They are not perverse, they are simply completely p1ss@d off with having to scroll through hundreds of lines of recycled dross in order to read, at the very end "+1".
