Intermittent network issues... Welcome to my world!?! ;-) Very tough to track but tracert, netstat, and Wireshark are your friends. Easiest thing to do would be to update the drivers from the manufacturer's website. If you still have the same problem... I just bout a great gigabit card for 10 bucks at newegg.com. Beyond that you will have to determine your hops and what else may be causing this problem on your network. I just spent my weekend troubleshooting my isp's network. They said it's a config issue on my end, I said NO, check your lines... long story short, they are checking their lines... hell they might even call me up and offer me a job with all of the proof I gave them LOL...
