I hope you don't mind me chiming in here. I think I asked this question quite recently on the mailing list and the reply I received from Magnus Persson (I hope I am not misquoting him) was that Valkyria adjusts the probability distribution based on a simple ladder readout which is a function which returns either success fail or unknown in order to feed this information into the playout process.
