Why does it have to be done?  Doesn't any player have a right
to play any way he wishes?

I agree that some people don't like it playing that way - 
but that's their problem.  I don't like the way some people
play the game but I guess that's my problem.

For a commercial program, you may prefer to cater if it
will get you more sales.   Even in computer chess some
people like some programs - the way they play - better 
than others regardless of strength.
