Uhoh, we're entering philosophical debate territory.
First, it often takes a while to check out and compile a fresh copy of
our source tree. During this time my system is unusable, thanks to
parallel compilation, and I go get coffee or something. Being a good
citizen, I kick on the screensaver.
Also, when I'm on my laptop, I really don't want to waste energy
displaying the screensaver.
