My 1995 C&C 36 XL has the same situation at the mast head as yours. The center 
halyard is for the head sail--and it exits slightly down the mast than the 
other 2 halyards. This allows either lower halyard to be used for the kite. The 
fore deck crew should keep the kite hoist and douse on the same tack--or be 
prepared for trouble on the take down since the kite halyard will be crossing 
the jib halyard.
Many racers cross the kite halyards inside the mast (if that is possible on 
your mast) so that for the usual port rounding of the windward mark, the kite 
hoist can be done from the 'high or windward side' of the boat. This keeps the 
mast man's weight on the high side and makes it easier for him to do the hoist 
since he is not hanging on the low side. And with the kite halyards swapped 
inside the mast, the kite is always hoisted on the port halyard and preferably 
doused on that side as well.
