Robert I don’t think you are going to find a source that recommends the time game to change the hose. Your boat is 40+ years old and I assume it is original.
The manufacturer of the dripless shaft seal I had installed on my prior boat recommended changing the hose after 10 years. It is different material from standard hose used with a stuffing box. If you are asking the question, it is time to change it.
