Dave;

I had the same problem with the wheel nut on my 38. I removed the nut and put a
very small dab of 3M 4000 sealant on the threads of the shaft. After it had set
(but not cured) I reinstalled the nut. Provides enough friction that the nut no
longer vibrates loose.

If you already have a bilge pump switch mounted high in the bilge (presumable
to run a high capacity back-up pump), why not just splice an alarm into the
existing wiring to the back-up pump? Or if you are concerned about the amp draw
of the alarm reducing the pump output, you could splice in a relay that turns
on the alarm. Then your alarm runs when your back-up pump kick on.

Subject: Stus-List Advice needed on Wheel nut and high water alarm

Hi and Happy Father’s Day to all Father’s. I have a couple of questions for
the list:

1.The wheel nut on my Edson wheel is constantly loosening itself while sailing.
Does anyone have a good fix for this problem so it is removable but does not
loosen itself?

2. I am planning to install a high water alarm as required by my insurance
company. Is there any guidance as to the most apprpriate height for placing
the sensor? Below flooring? Above flooring? I already have a emergency float
switch under the floorboards near the top of the curve of the hull ( above the
top of the bilge) so not sure how this sensor should relate to that switch.

Thanks- Dave
