You can see where the balsa is located in the hull of the Mk.1 if you look inside the lockers under the settees. I seem to remember the furthest aft locker on starboard is one place it is easy to see. The hull obviously get thicker to the inside in a clear step of about 3/4 of an inch where the balsa is located.
