an easy test for a in-hull transducer is to put in a Ziploc bag full of water and place it against the hull. If you get the right reading you are good to go. If not, look for a different spot.

Mine had been sitting is an original glassed-in box filled with mineral oil, but is was weeping oil out the bottom which irritated me, so I cut it out, made a little dam of clay, set the transducer in that, (supported properly) and poured epoxy around it. Works swimmingly. A few years ago I replaced my Speedo with a triducer, so all three functions are handled in that hole, but the old depth transducer is still there if ever needed. Some people have also set the transducer in a bed of silicone successfully. You can experiment by building a clay dam and putting a little water in it, set the transducer in it just to make sure it works for you. You may want to make sure there are no bubbles of voids in the fiberglass. Well, I guess I didn’t do this, I figured Columbus took a chance, so I would too. Dumb question I’m sure, but is the hull cored or solid? Any suggestions on where to locate the transducer on this model? David J. Morris, MBA President, D.J.
