In the video below I use a soft shackle to attach the spring line to the toe rail. I drop the line and it is not uncommon for the line to be wet from rain or from being dropped in the water. Never have any difficulties operating the shackle and can always make/unmake the connection in less than 10 seconds. In this case the soft shackle has the added advantage of not damaging the rub rail and fiberglass in the event of contact.
