The yard that did mine removed the prop shaft to do the job, their tool would not work on a 7/8” shaft. The tool is essentially a pipe that fits over the prop shaft that presses the bearing out with a way to grab the strut and not try and wrench the strut off the boat. The thicker the cutless bearing (NOT cutlass), the better they work. There is a gadget that presses the cutlass bearing out with shaft in place. I got me one. I’ve read they’re finicky. As in, they work great on brand new cutlass bearings. Never used it because we changed the CB when new shaft installed.
